Promotions can help your listing surface in search—but only if you use them strategically. Here’s how to make them work for you.
When most hosts think of running a promotion on Airbnb, they think “discount.” But Sarah and Annette want you to reframe it as a visibility tool.
Airbnb’s promotion system doesn’t pull directly from your nightly rate. Instead, it calculates the discount off your median rate from the past 60 days. That means even a 5–10% promo can be powerful if used at the right time.
Promotions are most effective when:
- Demand is strong but you haven’t been booked yet
- Your typical booking window has passed
- You’re at risk of being buried in search results
Used strategically, promotions signal to Airbnb’s algorithm that your listing deserves a boost. That can trigger higher visibility, special offer badges, and even inclusion in targeted guest emails.
The key is moderation—track what works, remove promos when your dates fill, and don’t rely on discounts to drive demand. This is one lever in your business toolbox, not your safety net.
