Spring Cleaning Secrets: Are You Missing These Airbnb Deep Clean Must-Dos? (Episode 451)

Spring Cleaning for Your Airbnb: 7 Deep Cleaning Tasks You Can’t Ignore

When’s the last time you moved your furniture and looked underneath? Or washed your mattress protector? If you’re running a short-term rental, the answer needs to be recently.

We know you care deeply about cleanliness (you’re a TFV host after all!), but the truth is: high guest turnover and tight timelines can mean certain areas of your property don’t get the attention they need. That’s where a solid spring cleaning strategy comes in.

In this post, we’re sharing seven spring cleaning tasks to refresh your Airbnb from top to bottom—plus tips for how to prep, what tools you’ll need, and why this isn’t a job you can squeeze into a standard turnover.

1. Refresh Living & Sleeping Spaces

Start with the basics:

  • Wash mattress and pillow protectors—yes, the actual protectors, not just the sheets!
  • Launder duvet inserts or swap for lightweight coverlets for warmer months.
  • Deep clean carpets and area rugs (consider hiring professionals).
  • Move furniture away from the walls and clean behind and underneath.
  • Dust and wipe vents, baseboards, ceiling fans, and light fixtures.

👉 TFV Tip: If your curtains haven’t been cleaned in a while, take them down and toss them in the wash. You’ll be shocked at the amount of hidden dust they hold.

2. Deep Clean Appliances

From washers to microwaves, now is the time to:

  • Clean inside gaskets (especially front-loading washers).
  • Wipe down the tops and sides of stacked appliances.
  • Pull them out if possible and clean behind and underneath.
  • Run cleaning cycles in dishwashers, washing machines, and coffee makers.
  • Check for buildup around dishwasher seals and drain filters.

3. Kitchen Inventory Check

Guests use kitchens hard—so it’s time to:

  • Pull out every item from drawers and cabinets.
  • Take full inventory: do you have enough dishes, utensils, and matching sets?
  • Toss damaged or stained items and replace as needed.
  • Wipe cabinet interiors, drawer liners, and shelf tops.
  • Make sure you’re stocked with functional food storage options (with matching lids!).

4. Bathroom Maintenance & Upkeep

The bathroom is one of the most noticeable areas for wear:

  • Replace or deep-clean shower liners and door tracks.
  • Freshen up old caulk with mold-resistant product.
  • Clean grout with a steamer or specialty cleaner.
  • Snake drains (hair happens—don’t ignore it!).
  • Clean light fixtures, mirrors, and cabinet hardware.

5. Safety & HVAC Maintenance

Spring is the perfect time to handle routine safety checks:

  • Replace air filters and clean inside your mini splits or HVAC vents.
  • Schedule professional HVAC servicing.
  • Check smoke and CO detectors (vacuum the sensors!).
  • Confirm ladders, fire extinguishers, flashlights, and emergency plans are in place.

6. Windows & Walls

  • Touch up scuffed paint or repaint where needed.
  • Wash windows inside and out.
  • Remove and clean screens.
  • Wipe walls and baseboards thoroughly.
  • Check that lightbulbs match in color and brightness.

7. Outdoor Patio & Curb Appeal

Don’t forget what guests see first:

  • Power wash decks, siding, patios, and sidewalks.
  • Clean or replace outdoor rugs and furniture.
  • Tidy up planters, gardens, or landscaping.
  • Check gutters and downspouts for debris.
  • Look at your listing’s front door and signage—does it need a refresh?

Pro Tip: Budget for It

Spring cleaning is not something to squeeze into your typical turnover window. Block time in your calendar. Budget for downtime. Budget for extra team help. Budget for supplies.

Your property deserves this reset—and your guests will notice.ue, and guest satisfaction—without chasing hacks or fighting the Airbnb algorithm.
